Plaids, plaids, plaids continued again

I finished all the blocks and laid them out on the bed in the guest room.

I played with block placements (I'm not sure this is the absolute final spot for every block but its close) and then decided to check out what went best in the corners: plaid triangles or half blocks.

I didn't cut all the triangles in case I didn't like it -just enough to see what it looked like- and placed them on the left side.

I then did the same thing trying out the half blocks-I had left over blocks so I just folded them in half and laid them out on the left side.

Definitely the half blocks! Wow-they really look good-so its back to the sewing room to cut and sew the half blocks. I will cut these extra blocks and then just sew half blocks for the rest.

I almost never used to take pictures of my quilts finished let alone in progress but this is actually very helpful-there's a distance that helps me see the quilt more objectively. Maybe its because most quilts I look at on a computer screen aren't mine!

Looking forward to your comments...don't forget that orange block, what do you think?

This is so pretty! I love all these colors together. Thanks for sharing your labor of love through photos.

Cool to see your work in progress. I actually like the orange block there.

Love it! But then I do adore plaids. I also really like the orange block. However - since you asked for opinions (at least I think you did - if you didn't then just ignore this LOL!) - if it were my quilt I would scatter two more brighter blocks elsewhere to balance out the one orange block. Right now my eye goes directly to the orange and doesn't move around the quilt as much as it should.

What a great-looking quilt! It has such a beautiful reproduction look to it. I like that orange block, personally, but agree with Patti that it would be good to have another couple of bright blocks to balance it out. Otherwise it's just going to jump out at you all the time. Great idea, Patti!

I have not seen an all plaid quilt and I. Like. It.
I actually like the darker colors the best. Patti does make a good point about the orange block because my eye goes right to it, too. It does help to see the quilts up on the screen. So glad you like and will finish the others. It has such a cozy feel to it.

I vote for the half-blocks, too! It looks great! I think if it were me, I would replace the orange block. It like the dark muted colors.

I LOVE that orange block.. just as it is. I would not change it at all. It creates interest, and makes the quilt very unique.

You are right about it helping to see your quilts on the screen and in photos as you are working on them. I have been discovering this too. :-)

So what did you decide about the orange block? Thank you for visiting my Blue Monday! I like how my cat turned out too.!

Just stopping by to ask if you have ever visited Julia's Place listed on my sidebar as a favorite. She is in Australia and loves quilting. Thought you might be interested. Happy Thanksgiving.

I love your plaid quilt and yes, the half-blocks look better. I used photos a lot this autumn when I was putting together a quilt someone else had started. It was so much easier to see what looked "wrong" in my arrangements.
